When I was a kid, I remember unwrapping the Super Nintendo Entertainment System as a Christmas present to me and my brothers. If you watched the home video of that moment, besides cringing at the style of the early 90s and wondering how we ever put up with standard definition anything, you’d see a young boy who was quite obviously excited and happy and thankful.

But really, he was thankful more over the gift than the givers. His excitement bubbled out of him because of the thing he had, not the heart of love or the sacrifice behind it.

So where does true thankfulness come from? For that we need to see the greatness of the ultimate Giver.
