Sometimes it’s important to see before you believe. There is a time and a place for verifying what’s true, what’s real, what’s accurate – and we probably all have our own stories to illustrate that. But can an insistence on seeing, a demanding for demonstration, ever go too far?
It did for the disciple named Thomas. Though the rest of the disciples told him that Jesus had risen from the dead, he would not believe! “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe,” Thomas said.
Jesus responded to Thomas by appearing to him and showing that he had risen indeed. But perhaps surprisingly, Jesus also added a promise that echoes down to you and me today, Christians of the 21st century: “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
Truly we are blessed who have not seen him and yet have believed – check out this message to see how that’s true!
